What’s New in R: September 9, 2024
Welcome to this week’s edition of What’s New in R! This week, we’re featuring impressions of Positron, a package for translating text, and a video on using GitHub Actions to publish a Quarto project automatically. Let’s dive in!
Positron IDE - A new IDE for data science
You may have heard about the new IDE (integrated development environment) for editing R code called Positron. Made by the folks at Posit, it’s a new alternative to RStudio. In this blog post, Athanasia Mo Mowinckel talks about her first impressions of Positron.
libretranslateR
This new-to-me package enables users to translate text using LibreTranslate (think: open source Google Translate). If you work with data in multiple languages, this could be quite useful.
Publish a Quarto project using GitHub Pages+GitHub Actions in 6 minutes (no need to render locally!)
This video shows how to use GitHub Actions to publish a Quarto project automatically. GitHub Actions (something I’ve written about) is a great way to have your code run for you automatically. In this video, Melissa Van Bussel shows how you can use GitHub Actions to publish your Quarto project without you having to remember to do it yourself locally.
