Child Welfare Partnership Reports and Dashboard
The Child Welfare Partnership (CWP) is an Oregon-based program that combines social work research, training, and education. Based at the Center for Improvement of Child and Family Services at Portland State University, CWP has trained over 100,000 people across the state.
In addition to conducting training, CWP evaluates their training for impact and effectiveness and communicates evaluation findings through reports to internal and external partners.. The CWP evaluation team uses R to create these reports, but found the process of generating them to be cumbersome given the large number of trainings occurring each year. In addition, they hoped to develop an interactive dashboard that CWP trainers and staff could use to access data collected from training allowing them to see results customizable to their needs and inform program improvements. Aware that improving the reports and generating an interactive dashboard was possible, but without the skills to create them on their own, the CWP reached out to us to help with these projects. Working together over several months, we improved the process of report generation, making it simple for CWP staff to create beautiful reports using parameterized reporting in Quarto.
And we developed an interactive dashboard that allows CWP trainers and staff to engage deeply with the data. With filters to see data in various ways, the dashboard has enabled the CWP team to engage with their data in ways not previously possible.
